Notes and procedures on upgrading from JDR_BBS r.07 to r.08.
.08 has lots of changes. Too many to fully keep track of. The major of which
is the menu system, completely incompatible with the old one, and you will not
only need to redo it, you will need to re-learn it.
Backup your current BBS.
Delete your current BBS (keep that backup).
Install .08.
You will need to redo most everything--use your backup files as a guide. Most
of the .DAT system files have not changed. Mostly everything has been merely
moved around.
You should use FIXSL.EXE to upgrade your SL.DAT file from .07 to .08.
You should use MSGSFIX.EXE to upgrade your MESSAGES file from .07 to .08.
You should use SYSPSFIX.EXE to upgrade your SYSOPS.DAT file from .07 to .08.
Internally: you will need to recheck your pathnames, settings, and toggles.
Run the program NEWSHORT.EXE to upgrade your SHORT.TXT file. This program
uses SHORT.07 and SHORT.08.
Run the program NEWLINES.EXE to upgrade your LINES.001 file. This program
uses LINES07.TXT and LINES08.TXT.
So it's pretty much: re-install the new software, then copy over/update your
old BBS files (a couple at a time, make sure they work), update when can,
and redo your internal menu command system (should not be that tricky, just
go by what you have currently on your ANSI's).
